Common RPG Lingo and Their Meanings


In Character (IC) - For character content only.
Out Of Character (OOC) - Content from yourself.
Original Character (OC) - A character that is created by you or someone else that is not an official comic character.
Canon Character (CC) - An official character that exists in the comics.
Played By (PB) - The person that is used for your character's appearance (actor/actress, musician, etc).
Mod - Moderator, those who have created and/or run the game.
Non-Player Character (NPC) - A character that exists in the game but does not have an assigned player.
Post/Entry - A journal/community entry, either IC or OOC.
Scene - Similar to a post, but is only IC involving one or more character(s).
Thread - A series of posts/replies within one page.
Tag - A request for a person/character to reply to your post.
Log / Joint / Co-Post - A post with two or more player's content.
Backdate - A scene that occurs before the current set time period.
Postdate - A scene that occurs after the current set time period.
HTML - A computer language consisting of codes used to alter text and graphics.
Label - Required when beginning a new IC thread - how to label threads.
SL - Storyline, plot, thread.
Mun - 'mundane' a normal person playing a character (a player).
Pup - Puppet, a character, something the mun controls.
